December's Project: Standing Christmas Trees

Pre-requisite:  Must be comfortable operating your embroidery machine which includes how to thread your machine and wind bobbins.

This tree is made for both the 9 ½ x 14 and 8 x 12 Hoop. It can be made in felt, cotton, or free-standing lace.

Supply List:

Hoop needed: 8" x 12" or 9.5" x 14"

Materials:

  • If you make it in free-standing lace, you need 2 pieces of wash-away stabilizer for five hoopings, plus one hooping for base.
  • If you make it in cotton, you need tear-away stabilizer for 5 hoopings and SF-101 to back 10 pieces of cotton. Plus the base.
  • If you make it in felt, you need tear-away stabilizer for 5 hoopings and 10 pieces of felt. Plus the base.
  • You will need to have bobbins to match your top thread. If you are making the free-standing ace tree, you will need from 4 to 6 bobbins.
  • Also included are designs to make just one Christmas Tree to hang. These designs include a circle at the top of the tree to attach ribbon or whatever you want to use.
  • The tree requires a round stand. It can be made out of free-standing lace, felt, or cotton. The tree can be attached to its stand using wire, sewn on, or glued. We used wire purchased in the jewelry department at Hobby Lobby. It is 24 gauge and can probably be purchased many
    places.
  • For the cotton and felt tree you will need to cut 10 pieces of material to make 5 tree sections.
  • You will need two pieces of cotton or felt to make the tree base.
  • 8 x 12 Size: Cut your material 10 x 12 for tree and 10 x 10 for circle base
  • 9 ½ x 14 Size: Cut your material 11 x 13 for tree and 11 x 11 for circle base
